Average net salary in Romania advances to RON 5,351 lei in February 2025

  The average net salary in Romania increased to RON 5,351 - about EUR1.076 - in February 2025, up RON 23 (+0.4%) on a monthly basis, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).The average before tax salary was RON 8,825 in February 2025, up RON 22 (+0.2%) from the the previous month.The highest values of the average net salary were reported in information technology services, including computer services, at RON 11,619, and the manufacture of tobacco products at RON 10,860, while the lowest was in hotels and restaurants RON 3,263, and the manufacture of clothing, at RON 3,345.Compared with February 2024, the average net salary increased by 9.7%.The real wage earnings index was 104.5% in February 2025 as against February 2024. The real wage gain index was 99.5% in February 2025 as against January 2025. Compared with October 1990, the real wage earnings index was 249.3%, down 1.1% from January 2025.During the year there are fluctuations in wage earnings mainly determined by the granting of annual bonuses and holiday bonuses, especially in the months taken as a basis for comparison (December, March/April). They generate increases or decreases depending on the period in which they are granted, ultimately leading to the fading of fluctuations in monthly salary earnings throughout the year. Developments in the real wage earnings depends both on the fluctuations in the net average wage earnings and on the inflation rate, according to INS.The most significant increases in the average net salary at the level of NACE Rev.2 sections/divisions were recorded as follows: by 33.9% in the manufacture of tobacco products, and by 30.2% in activities auxiliary to financial services and insurance activities and pension funds.The most significant decreases in the average net salary was by 12.7% in the metallurgical industry and by 11.5% in the extraction of metal ores.In the public sector, there were increases in the February 2025 average net salary earnings from the previous month public administration (+0.8%), while slightly decreasing from the previous month in education (-1.1%), healthcare and social assistance (-1.8%) (EUR 1 = RON 4.97).
