Presidential election 2025/Flashdata poll: George Simion and Crin Antonescu top the voters' preferences

Chairman of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) George Simion and the ruling coalition's candidate Crin Antonescu are currently one percentage point apart at the top of the voters' preferences in the presidential race, shows the latest national poll by Flashdata released on Monday.If elections were held next Sunday, 27% of Romanians say they would vote for George Simion, 26% for Crin Antonescu, 20% for Nicusor Dan, 9% for Elena Lasconi, 8% for Victor Ponta, 4.8% for Lavinia Sandru, 1.3% for Daniel Funeriu, Silviu Predoiu would garner 0.5% of the vote, Cristian Terhes - 0.3%, while 2.1% of the respondents said they are still undecided, and 1% do not know or don't want to answer.The poll found that 92% of respondents learned about the statement of presidential candidate and former Prime Minister Victor Ponta that in 2014 he decided to have the Danube meadow flooded downstream the Iron Gates dam, while only 6% were unaware of that, and 2% do not know or did not answer. Asked if Victor Ponta made a good decision back then, 82% of the subjects answered negatively, 10% answered in the affirmative, and 8% do not know or did not answer.89% of the respondents were aware of the conflict within the Save Romania Union (USR) that resulted in the party withdrawing its support for Elena Lasconi's candidacy, while 9% had not found out about that, and 2% did not know or did not answer.60% of the interviewees said they do not consider that USR's switching support for Nicusor Dan instead of Elena Lasconi is good, 32% are of a contrary opinion, and 8% did not know or did not answer.58% of respondents consider that Romania is currently headed in a good direction, 26% think the opposite, and 16% did not answer or did not know how to answer.On a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 stands for "definitely not voting" and 10 for "definitely voting" in the May election, 82% of those interviewed answered "definitely voting", and 9% "definitely not voting". On the same scale, 69% of the respondents said they have decided who they want to vote for, and 9% declared themselves completely undecided, or don't know who to vote for.If the parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 25.5% of Romanians would vote AUR, 19.5% - PSD, 15% - PNL, 11% - USR, 3% - POT, 3% - UDMR, 2% - S.O.S. Romania, and 8.5% for another party. 7.5% of the respondents said that they have not made their mind yet, and 5% of them do not know or did not answer the question.Also, 54% of the interviewees believe that Facebook offers more credible information, and 46% consider the same about TikTok.The poll was conducted between April 10 - 12 on a sample of 7,500 respondents aged 18 and over and residing in Romania. The sample type is probabilistic, random. The poll carries a margin error of plus/minus 3.5%, at a 95% confidence level. The questionnaire was online, with targeting by location, age, urban/rural.
