May 5, 2025

The Tara Hategului UNESCO International Geopark administered by the University of Bucharest, is a partner under a new project aimed at capitalising on the natural and cultural heritage of the small town of Bretea Romana by creating an 8 km thematic route, which will connect the village of Bretea to the Gradistea Muncelului-Cioclovina National Park.Called "Experiences in nature and culture in Romanian Bretea," the project is designed to create attractive activities for visitors and residents, thus supporting the development of sustainable tourism and the active involvement of the community."The project aims to offer authentic experiences by discovering and promoting the natural and cultural elements of Bretea Romana, with support from the school, the local community and the volunteers for the Geopark. A thematic route of about 8 kilometres will be created connecting the village of Bretea to the Gradistea Muncelului - Cioclovina Natural Park, and two cultural landmarks will be highlighted through interpretation panels. The activities will also include mounting exhibitions and educational workshops, with all these initiatives to be promoted to the general public during Geopark's events, such as the Day of Volcanoes," according to the geopark. The activities will take place between April and September 2025 designed for a long-term impact by providing sustainable educational and tourism resources aimed at contributing to the development of ecotourism in Tara Hategului."This approach helps the geopark strengthen its mission of protecting and capitalising on the natural and cultural heritage, promoting a model of active collaboration between the local administration, schools, non-profit organisations and the community."The initiative is carried out by the Drag de Hateg Association, under a partnership with the Tara Hategului UNESCO International Geopark - University of Bucharest, Bretea Romana Town Hall, Bretea Romana Secondary School and the National Agency of the Mountain Area - Hateg Regional Centre.  (Photo:https://www.hateggeoparc.ro/new/)
