Largest photovoltaic park in Romania, financed by PNRR, inaugurated in Teius by Danish developer

June 5, 2025

The largest photovoltaic park in Romania financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), a total investment of 55 million euros, of which 15 million euros represent non-refundable financing, was inaugurated on Tuesday in Teius (Alba County) being also the largest such objective achieved in the 16 countries where the Danish developer Eurowind Energy is present.Built on a pasture of over 80 hectares, the park is still used by livestock breeders in the area for grazing sheep."It is the largest in our group, in all 16 countries, and the largest photovoltaic park financed with funds from the PNRR, by the Ministry of Energy. The investment is worth 55 million euros, of which 15 million euros from the PNRR", said Adrian Dobre, Country Manager Romania at Eurowind Energy. He also announced another investment in Teius, in a battery energy storage facility (BESS), with a capacity of 116.96 MWh. The total investment in the storage infrastructure amounts to approximately 43 million euros, of which 7.6 million euros are PNRR funds, and which should be completed by the end of next year.Present at the inauguration, Constantin Saragea, secretary general of the Ministry of Energy, said that through this investment in the energy system "another page is being written" in Romania's history in the energy field."The importance comes from the capacity of this project, 60.2 MW, it is a capacity that we, today, are putting into operation (...). If we were to calculate the average consumption of a locality or a place of consumption for a citizen, it would support 60.2 MW, and at the national level it would support about 86,000 households, which means 70% of the households in Alba County", he said. The official pointed out that such investments are needed in the energy system."We want to have such investments at the level of Romania, because only through an honest partnership like this, between the state and the private sector (...) a stable, efficient and independent energy system can be built also in Romania", Saragea said. The official inauguration took place in the presence of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Romania, Uffe A. Balslev, representatives of ANRE, Transelectrica, DEER and the Mayor of Teius, Mirel Halalai. The construction of the Teius photovoltaic park began in the fall of 2023, with 120,276 photovoltaic modules being installed. The project was developed by Eurowind Energy, a Danish operator of renewable projects, in partnership with Teius Solar Ltd.It will produce approximately 103.59 GWh of electricity annually and will contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 37,000 tons. The Teius photovoltaic park is an installation with a tracker structure, which allows the panels to automatically follow the sun throughout the day, for more efficient energy production. The infrastructure of the Teius photovoltaic park also includes a 110/20kV, 80 MVA internal transformer station, built to the highest standards, to ensure the efficient integration of the energy produced into the national grid.    (Photo: Eurowind Energy)
