Romania and the Netherlands will establish a joint training center for Ukrainian F-16 technicians, https://militarnyi.com/ informs. The Dutch Ministry of Defense reported that both countries have signed a memorandum. The training center will be located at the Fetsesti air base, where the European F-16 Training Center is already operating. The center currently trains both Romanian and Ukrainian pilots. “Ukrainians will use F-16s for air defense. Every day we see how important this is. We need not only pilots, but also well-trained technical staff. Together with Romania, we are taking the next important step in this direction,” the Dutch Ministry of Defense said. Earlier, the Dutch Air Force trained Ukrainian technicians at the Volkel air base. F-16 systems – electronics, hydraulics, avionics, weapons, engine – require highly skilled maintenance. Separate specialists are responsible for hanging and adjusting missiles, bombs, guns, integrating guidance systems, and checking weapons electronics. Last year, the Netherlands officially approved the transfer of 24 F-16 fighter jets and seven jet engines to Ukraine. In addition, they are supplying spare parts and equipment for the maintenance and repair of the aircraft, totaling 80 million euros. The Netherlands is financing the purchase of weapons for Ukrainian F-16s. On March 21, 2024, it was announced that 150 million euros would be allocated, and on July 30, 2024, an additional 300 million euros would be allocated. Ukraine and the Czech Republic also agreed to establish a pilot training center for F-16 fighters.
