AEP: The entire electoral process took place in a climate of integrity, fairness and transparency

June 3, 2025

The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) stated on Wednesday that the entire electoral process for electing the president of Romania took place "in a climate of integrity, fairness and transparency" and drew attention to the fact that the accusations launched online by an electoral competitor are "completely false and unfounded".According to the AEP, "the Romanian electoral system is adapted to the highest European and international standards in the matter and offers security guarantees at all levels."Also, the IT systems and applications used in the 2025 presidential elections, namely SIMPV, SICPV and ADV, met all legislative, technical and operational requirements, and the implementation of the blockchain technical solution made it impossible for any kind of interference to occur in the data flow, a statement from the Authority also states.AEP mentions that all activities for the organization of the second round of the presidential elections were carried out under normal conditions and without interruption, in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 370/2004 for the election of the President of Romania and of Government Emergency Ordinance no. 1/2025."The institutions involved in organizing the 2025 electoral process have taken all measures to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections, a fact confirmed by the lack of reports of incidents of the type that could have distorted the election result, both during the operations in the polling stations and after the conclusion of the minutes and their transmission and centralization," AEP informed. At the same time, official data from the electoral bureaus showed that no appeals were filed regarding the results of the vote, a fact also emphasized in the reports of international observers present in polling stations in the country and abroad, the cited source specifies."The Permanent Electoral Authority draws attention to the fact that false information released in the public space has only the objective of undermining citizens' trust in state institutions, being spread irresponsibly even in the absence of any evidence," the statement added. The AEP also emphasizes the importance of informing voters correctly and from official sources in order to strengthen the integrity and fairness of the electoral process, given "the current informational climate dominated by techniques and tactics aimed at spreading disinformation with the aim of eroding trust in democratic electoral processes."According to the AEP, the organization of this year's presidential elections was possible "only through a coherent, open and professional partnership and through efficient cooperation between institutions with responsibilities in electoral matters."The Permanent Electoral Authority expressed its gratitude to institutional partners, staff from electoral offices at all levels, civil society and the media for their contribution to the organization of this year's presidential elections in the best possible conditions."Free elections are essential for a fair, equitable society that responds to the needs of all its citizens, the recently concluded electoral process reaffirming Romania's status as a consolidated democracy," the AEP also pointed out.
