Foreign Ministry warns about foreign manipulation campaign and digital interference

June 19, 2025

The Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that a sustained foreign manipulation and digital interference is still going on. It is meant to influence the public opinion in Romania and has “all signs of Russian disinformation”.   “The Romanian Foreign Ministry strongly rejects the content of the fake article attributed to Euronews, which was posted and distributed on social media platforms. At the same time, the Foreign Ministry points out that in past years and especially in the last three months, there was a sustained campaign of manipulation and foreign digital interference meant to influence public opinion in Romania and the recent elections. This campaign is still present and has all characteristics of Russian disinformation and masked anti-NATO and anti-EU propaganda campaigns,”the ministry press release shows.   According to the Foreign Ministry, France has been a frequent target of such manipulations in the past weeks.   “Recent examples in Romania have been revealed during presidential elections in Romania, last week. The fake article attributed to Euronews represents a standard element from the hybrid arsenal attributed to Russia. It is part of a known set of tactics, techniques and procedures associated to campaigns initiated by Kremlin, such as Doppelganger network,” the Foreign Ministry pointed out.
