AEP: Unfounded accusations made by AUR, attack on stability of key Romanian state institutions

June 5, 2025

The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) "firmly" rejects the accusations made by the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) regarding the integrity of the electoral process and warns that the launch in the international public space of these "unfounded" accusations, "of bad faith, without any proof or evidence" represents an attack on the stability of the key institutions of the Romanian state. The AEP recalls that the AUR chairperson admitted, in the first phase, the validity of the electoral process and emphasises that the desire of the AUR representatives to be allowed to check the voters' personal numerical codes (CNP) exceeds the legal framework for the protection of personal data.According to AEP, on May 18, the AUR representative was present at the processing station with the Central Electoral Bureau, had unrestricted access to the computer systems, accessed the systems in real time, checked whether the data generated in the databases are identical to those published on https://prezenta.roaep.ro/prezidentiale18052025/, both in terms of voter turnout and centralisation of the data from the minutes.AEP reiterates its appeal to voters to inform themselves correctly and only from official sources in order to avoid attempts to manipulate their perception of the integrity of the electoral process."The Romanian electoral system is adapted to the highest European and international standards and offers security guarantees at all levels, the information systems and applications used for the 2025 presidential elections, namely SIMPV, SICPV and ADV, have met all the legislative, technical and operational requirements, and the implementation of the blockchain technical solution made it impossible for any kind of interference in the data flow. The institutions involved in the organisation of the 2025 electoral process took all measures to ensure free and fair elections, as confirmed by the absence of reports of incidents of the type that could have distorted the outcome of the elections, both during the polling station operations and after the minutes of the vote were finalised and after they had been sent and centralised. At the same time, the official data of the electoral bureaus showed that no appeals were lodged against the result of the vote, a fact also emphasised in the reports of international observers present in the polling stations in the country and abroad," AEP said in a press release sent on Thursday.AEP draws attention to the fact that false information released in the public space has only the objective of undermining citizens' trust in state institutions, being spread irresponsibly even in the absence of any evidence.
