Lio-Metal opens new metallurgy factory in Galati with a €5 million investment

June 1, 2025

Lio-Metal, a Romanian company in the metallurgy industry, is officially opening a new production factory in Galati, built to replace its old facility, with an investment of approximately €5 million, financed with the support of ING Bank.   “After 16 years of activity, relocating to a modern factory is a natural step that allows us to operate at higher technological standards, ensuring an optimized, energy-efficient production flow that is much better adapted to current market demands. We are proud to have built this greenfield facility, tailored to our current needs. It represents the expansion of our capacity and reinforces our quality and operational efficiency standards. We have invested significantly in technology and people, and today we are better equipped than ever to deliver reliable and competitive solutions. We continue to build responsibly, following a clear vision of sustainable and long-term development,” stated Ion Luca, Founder and CEO of Lio-Metal.   Covering over 7,000 square meters and equipped with modern machinery, the new Lio-Metal factory will have an annual production capacity of around25,000 tons.  Over the next two years, it will enable an increase of estimated 50% in the total production volume.   At the same time, the new facility will allow the company to diversify its product portfolio and offer shorter delivery times to its partners.   Currently, the new unit employs 52 people, an increase of about 10 compared to the previous location, thus also contributing to revitalizing the region’s labor market.   The factory specializes in producing a wide range of metallurgical products, including black and galvanized welded pipes of various shapes and sizes, sheet metal coils and strips, profiled sheets, special bent profiles for container production and other metal fabrications, metal lath used in residential construction, and reinforcements for PVC window profiles. Among the technological innovations implemented is a line for manufacturing galvanized pipes with the weld bead fully zinc-coated, ensuring total protection of the final product.   Lio-Metal’s products are mainly sold domestically, but also to neighboring countries, which generate between 8 and 12% of the company’s turnover.   Last year, the company reported a turnover of €15 million, and for this year, Lio-Metal estimates that it will end the year with €18 million.   In addition to the direct economic impact, the company is placing an increasing emphasis on sustainability and social responsibility. The new production unit has been designed in accordance with energy efficiency principles and resource consumption reduction, aligning with global efforts to the transition toward a cleaner industry.   “We aim to be an example of sustainable development in the Romania’s metallurgical industry. Our strategy includes optimizing processes, reducing our environmental impact, and promoting a business model based on innovation and social responsibility,” added the company’s founder.   Through continous investments in modern technologies and resource optimization, Lio-Metal aims to remain a relevant and responsible player in the Romania’s metallurgical sector, contributing to the development of the industry in the southeast region of the country and to the access of high-quality products both domestically and abroad.   Founded in 2009, Lio-Metal is a Romanian company with 100% private capital, active in the metallurgical industry. With a modern production factory located in Galati County, the company manufactures a wide range of metallurgical products, including black and galvanized welded pipes, sheet metal coils and strips, galvanized profiles for reinforcing PVC window profiles, bent profiles for containers, etc. Lio-Metal serves customers throughout the country, as well as in neighboring markets, with a turnover of €15 million in 2024 and a total production capacity of 25,000 tons per year.
