June 12, 2025

Approximately 5,000 soldiers from four countries - Italy, Republic of Moldova, Romania and the USA - are participating from June 10 to 24 in the multinational exercise Saber Guardian 25 (SG25), led by the United States Army Europe and Africa (USAREUR-AF) and the Joint Forces Command "General Ioan Emanoil Florescu", informs a press release of the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) on Monday.According to the cited source, the activities are taking place in several shooting ranges in Romania, including Frecatei and Babadag (Tulcea county), Suraia (Vrancea) and Cincu (Brasov)."The main goal of SG25 is to strengthen cohesion, unity and solidarity between allied and partner states, by demonstrating the ability to react quickly and to concentrate forces at any point in Europe, in a short time," MApN said.SG25 is part of the DEFENDER 25 exercise complex, which includes planning and coordination phases initiated in advance of the operational phases currently underway. In May, the exercise was preceded by the deployment of personnel and equipment to the training areas via national road, sea and air transportation networks. After the completion of activities, the withdrawal of forces will follow, scheduled for the second quarter of June.DEFENDER 25 is planned by the U.S. European Command (USEUCOM) and coordinated by USAREUR-AF. This year's edition brings together some 10,000 servicemen from seven allied and partner countries, with activities taking place in the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. The main training sequences include tactical marches with military technique, repeated river crossings and live ammunition exercises, all aimed at developing interoperability between participating contingents. The Saber Guardian exercise has been organized twice a year since 2013, aiming to strengthen the joint reaction capability in a wide range of missions, both within NATO and with partner states. The event is part of the USAREUR-AF joint training program and contributes to strengthening military cooperation, both bilaterally and within the broader alliance, MApN said.  (Photo:https://armed.mapn.ro/)
