July 10, 2025

Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force, part of the Air Policing Combat Service, took off from the 86th Air Base Borcea and carried out surveillance and protection missions over Romanian airspace, in the context of Russia's overnight drone attacks from Wednesday to Thursday, which targeted civilian and port infrastructure in Ukraine, near the locality of Vylkove, close to Romania's river border, the Ministry of National Defence (MApN) reported.According to a MApN press release, the fighter jets returned to base around 1:30 a.m.The radar systems of the Ministry of National Defence did not indicate 'at any time, any unauthorised intrusions of monitored targets into national airspace,' the source said. The MApN forces will carry out on Thursday standard procedure-based checks in areas where risks may arise following last night's events. Allied structures are being informed in real time about situations at the border, MApN added. The monitoring and radar surveillance systems of the Ministry of National Defence detected and tracked aerial targets flying in Ukrainian airspace, near Tulcea County. Consequently, the National Military Command Centre (core unit) notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations to implement population alert measures in the northern border area of the county. RO-ALERT messages were sent at 12:11 a.m. to the population in that area. The alert cancellation notice was sent at 12:47 a.m.'The Ministry of National Defence remains firm in condemning these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure and facilities, which are unjustified and in serious contradiction with international law,' the press release reads.
