Average net salary in Romania decreases to RON 5,647 lei in April 2025

The average net salary in Romania was to RON 5,647 in April 2025, down RON 44 (-0.8%)compared to the March 2025, according to data published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).The average gross salary was RON 9,415, down RON 80 (-0.8%) from the the previous month.The highest values of the average net salary were reported in extraction of crude oil and natural gas at RON 14,021, and in information technology services, including computer services, at RON 12,599, while the lowest was in Horeca, at RON 3,332, and the manufacture of clothing, at RON 3,430.Compared with April 2024, the average net salary increased by 8.2%.The real wage earnings index was 103.2% in April 2025 year-over-year, and 99.1% compared to March 2025.The most significant increases in average net earnings at section/division level were recorded in crude oil and natural gas extraction (35.6%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, activities incidental to mining, manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, water transport (between 10% and 16%) and manufacture of other transport equipment, repair, maintenance and installation of machinery and equipment, manufacture of road transport vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, other mining activities, manufacture of rubber and plastic products (between 5% and 9%).Conversely, the most significant decreases in average net earnings were recorded in the manufacture of tobacco products (by 34.8%), in publishing, beverage manufacturing, telecommunications, the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, financial intermediation (except insurance and pension fund activities), information technology services (including computer services) (between 8% and 13.5%) and the manufacture of machinery, equipment and equipment n.e.c. , professional, scientific and technical activities, real estate transactions, film, video and television programme production, audio recording and music publishing activities (including broadcasting and transmission of programmes) (between 3% and 7.5%).In the public sector, the average net salary decreased slightly compared to the previous month, as follows: education (-2.4%), public administration (-0.6%), and healthcare and social assistance (-0.2%).
