The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed on Saturday "deep concern" regarding the possible repercussions on the security situation in the Middle East following Israel's June 13 strikes on Iran and the retaliation barrage."Any additional escalation may have dramatic consequences in an already volatile context," the Foreign Ministry said, emphasizing that "Romania remains committed to stability in the Middle East and urges all parties to show restraint and return to diplomacy.""We firmly support a diplomatic and negotiated solution regarding the Iranian nuclear file. We will continue to coordinate closely with our allies and partners. Our immediate concern is the safety of the Romanian citizens in the region. Romania's embassies and consular offices are fully mobilized and ready to provide assistance," the Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry went on to note.Iran launched earlier on Saturday a fourth wave of missiles on Israel in response to the unprecedented Israeli air strikes carried out the day before on Iranian military and nuclear sites, which raised fears of escalating tensions in the region. The Israeli attacks on Iran have killed at least 78 people, including senior military leaders, AFP reports. The MFA reiterates Israel’s right to defend itself and protect its people. At the same time, the MFA considers that regional security needs active diplomatic engagements. Romania will continue to work with its partners and allies to jointly contribute to lasting regional stability. Furthermore, throughout the affected region, Romania`s diplomatic missions are fully mobilized and ready to provide assistance to ensure the safety of Romanian citizens.
