CCIB president in dialogue with the minister of economy and industry of Syria

At the invitation of Mr.Khaled Sharaf, Charge d'Affaires and interim of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Romania, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bucharest (CCIB), Mr.Iuliu Stocklosa had a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Industry, Mr.Mohammad Nidal al-Shaar.   During the meeting held at the headquarters of the aforementioned diplomatic mission, the CCIB president appreciated the important changes in Syria, expressing his hope that they will lead to the consolidation of bilateral economic relations with Romania.On this occasion, Mr.Iuliu Stocklosa stressed the importance of cooperation between the chambers of commerce and industry, which will contribute to facilitating contacts between the business environments of Romania and Syria, with an impact on the growth of trade, for the benefit of both states.   According to the president of the Chamber of Commerce Bucharest, the Romanian companies can get involved in the modernisation of the industrial complexes in Syria, built by the Romanian specialists in the 70's and 80's such as refineries, cement and phosphate factories, electrification stations, etc. Iuliu Stocklosa alos invited the Syrian companies to develop business in our country, benefitting from the facilities offered by Romania to foreign investors, as well as the opportunities coming from its EU membership .   The Minister of Economy and Industry of Syria expressed his willingness to facilitate the contact and support signing of agreement between CCUIB and the Damascus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Similarly, he addressed the CCIB president the invitation to pay a visit to Syria's capital city, together with Romanian business people who could contribute to the development of industry in his country with new technologies, know-how and investments.   According to the senior Syrian official, the participation of the Romanian companies to Damascus International Fair (27.08 - 05.09.2025)will offer important opportunities to promote products and services, as well as partnerships in the reconstruction of Syria.     In 2024, the value of Romanian-Syrian commercial exchanges was modest, reaching only five million USD (-38% against the previous year), out of which export was three million USD (-29%) and import 2 million USD (-48%).
