July 17, 2025

Forty Romanian citizens were supported on Tuesday for assisted repatriation from Israel to Bulgaria, via Egypt, 38 of them returning to Romania on Wednesday morning, while two others continued their journey to another destination, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE).The MAE specifies that the persons in question were supported by the Romanian Representative Office in Ramallah and by the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv, in order to identify an accommodation unit on the territory of the State of Israel until they were taken over by a bus heading to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Romanian ministry also mentions that once they reached the border crossing point between the State of Israel and the Arab Republic of Egypt, the persons in question were taken over by a consul from the Romanian Embassy in Cairo, who provided them the necessary support to be able to board a special flight organised by the Bulgarian authorities. After arriving in Sofia, the Romanian citizens were transported by bus to Bucharest, following the steps taken by the Romanian Embassy in Sofia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that both the representatives of the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Romanian Embassy in Cairo were staying permanently in touch with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Tel Aviv, respectively the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Cairo, for real-time coordination and support, in order to provide consular assistance and protection. The Ministry, through the Embassy of Romania in Tel Aviv, the Consulate General of Romania in Haifa and the Representative Office of Romania in Ramallah, stays in contact with the relevant authorities and with the Romanian citizens who have notified their presence in the State of Israel, in order to identify the best solutions for their safe return to the country, depending on the development on the ground. At the same time, the Crisis Cell of the MAE continues to coordinate both with the diplomatic missions/c onsular offices of Romania in the affected states, as well as with representatives of other EU member states. The MAE reiterates the recommendations addressed to the Romanian citizens in this context (www.mae.ro/node/66883, www.mae.ro/node/66881) and the fact that they need to register their presence in the State of Israel and/or the Islamic Republic of Iran (www.mae.ro/node/66890).
