The EPP President called Nicusor Dan, who confirmed his participation in the party's summit

July 17, 2025

The President of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, stated in Strasbourg that he personally called President Nicusor Dan, who recently publicly confirmed that he will participate in the EPP summit in Brussels next week.   ' He is an independent politician, not affiliated to any party, and that is why I am very proud that he chose EPP as a place to present the Romanian perspective' said Weber when referring to Nicusor Dan. 'This is good news for us, as a EPP family' Weber added in the statement he made in a press conference and posted on Tuesday on his Instagram page.   Asked in a press conference on June 2 after participating in the B9 and Nordic Summit which leaders he would speak with before his first European Council, an event traditionally preceded by discussions of leaders in European families, Nicusor Dan stated that he confirmed his presence 'as a guest, and not as a member in any way or another, of the European People's Party Group'.   The EPP summit meets before each European Council to set the party's priorities ahead of the Council. The next European Council will take place on 26 and 27 June.   President Nicusor Dan's participation in the EPP Summit offers Romania a greater capacity to influence the major decisions at the level of the European Union, said on Facebook the EPP MEP Siegfried Muresan.
