ECFR Survey: The Romanians, the most convinced Europeans that Trump's choice is a good thing for peace

July 22, 2025

The Romanians are among the Europeans most convinced that Donald Trump's election at the White House is a good thing both for their country and for peace in the world, six months after the elections were won by the Republic president, shows an opinion survey made in 12 European states and made public on Monday.   According to the survey made by European Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFR), 41% of the Romanians say that Trump's election is a good thing for peace in the world while 21% consider that is a bad thing, and 38% consider neither one nor the other.   They are followed at great distance by the Hungarians (33% consider that Trump's election is a good thing), Poles (23%), French (22%) and Italians (21%).   Similarly, the Romanians are the first for the conviction that Donald Trump as a president of the US is a good choice for their country, being followed by the Hungarians (29%) and the Poles (25%). In exchange, 22% of the Romanians consider that it is a bad thing, and 48% neither one nor the other.   Moreover, a third of the Romanians (33%) similar to the Poles state that Trump's election is a good thing for the American citizens, being surpassed only by the Hungarians (36%) and the Estonians (34%).   The survey was made in 12 European countries (Denmark, Switzerland, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Hungary) and in each state there were interviewed almost 1,000 people, in the second half of May. The European Council for Foreign Relations commissioned the survey to Datapraxis, YouGov and Norstat.   Romania and Hungary are different from the other states included in the survey where the main opinion of the citizens is that Trump's election is a bad thing for the Americans, for their own countries  and for peace in the world, says the study.   Absolute majorities in half of the countries - Denmark, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK - have a negative opinion about Trump as regards all three aspects.
