Leonardo SpA and Avioane Craiova SA sign technological and industrial cooperation agreement

July 23, 2025

Italian defence group Leonardo SpA and Avioane Craiova SA signed a 'Technological and Industrial Cooperation Agreement' on Wednesday at Paris Air Show, a significant step forward in strengthening industrial collaboration between the two companies, informs a press release of the Italian group. The agreement covers several areas of potential cooperation, with a primary focus on Leonardo's C-27J Spartan aircraft and the M-345 and M-346 Integrated Training Systems (ITS), including the establishment, in Romania, of activities related to the C-27J avionics upgrade programme, maintenance and logistics, repairs and personnel training.Avioane Craiova aims to be deeply involved in the current upgrade programme for the seven C-27J Spartan aircraft operated by the Romanian Air Force since 2010. This important modernisation programme, which includes the integration of state-of-the-art systems and training activities, would guarantee significant industrial efficiency, paving the way for future industrial programmes aimed at progressively building a reliable regional industrial centre for the C-27J at Avioane Craiova.Furthermore, the agreement between Leonardo SpA and Avioane Craiova will open up additional opportunities for the joint development of a complex proposal, enabling the Romanian Air Force to integrate a new paradigm for pilot training based on the M-345 and M-346 Integrated Training System. This approach would facilitate the establishment of new local maintenance, sub-assembly, logistics and support capabilities, contributing to the long-term sustainability of the Romanian Air Force fleet. It would also encourage the growth of Romania's defence industrial base, opening up new opportunities for technological cooperation, skills development and high-value jobs in Romania.  (Photo:https://www.acv.ro/gallery/)
