Conditions for acquisition of NATO-type individual weapons, respectively Infantry Fighting Vehicle - under public consultation

  The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) is launching to public consultation two draft Government Decisions: one regarding the approval of the circumstances and the specific procedure related to the "NATO-type individual weapon system" acquisition program and the other regarding the approval of the circumstances and the specific procedure related to stage I of the "Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle" acquisition program.The Ministry of Defense recalls that the Decision on the specific circumstances and procedure related to the "NATO-type Individual Weapon System" - SAI acquisition program was approved by the Supreme Council for Country's Defense (CSAT) in March 2025."The joint committees for defense, public order and national security of the Parliament decided to transmit to the Ministry of Defense the "prior approval for the initiation of the award procedure" related to the "NATO-type Individual Weapon System" - SAI acquisition program, in the joint meeting of April 20, 2021.The Decision on the approval of the specific circumstances and procedure related to stage I of the "Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle" - MLI acquisition program was adopted by the CSAT in March this year.The joint committees for defense, public order and national security of the Parliament decided to transmit to the MApN "preliminary approval for the initiation of the award procedure" of the procurement contracts related to the equipment program, the Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle" - MLI, in the joint meeting on April 3, 2023."The two programs provided for in the draft Government Decisions ensure the acquisition of new equipment adapted to current security challenges, operational requirements and interoperability standards with other NATO and EU member states", adds the Romanian ministry."The essential security interest for the Romanian state is the protection of the supply chain through technological transfer on Romanian territory of assembly, integration, testing and maintenance capabilities for the aforementioned equipment and products", the MApN says.After the approval of these Government Decisions, the award documentation will be finalized in order to initiate the procurement procedure, through the General Directorate for Armaments (DGArm), as the contracting authority.The two said draft normative acts, which are in the decision-making transparency procedure, according to the provisions of the law, can be accessed on sg.mapn.ro/transparenta.
