Ilie Bolojan has been elected PNL president

August 12, 2025

The Extraordinary Congress of the PNL (National Liberal Party) on Saturday voted Ilie Bolojan as the party's president.Bolojan was the only candidate for the position of president of the PNL.Catalin Predoiu, Adrian Vestea, Nicoleta Pauliuc, Ciprian Ciucu were elected as first vice-presidents.Ciprian Dobre was elected president of the Court of Arbitration, and Virgil Guran president of the National Committee of Reviewers and Censors. The vote was secret for the positions of party president, first vice-presidents, president of the Court of Arbitration and president of the National Committee of Reviewers and Censors. There were also validated the regional vice-presidents, who will become members of the National Executive Bureau. In this case, the vote was open. Thus, Alexandru Muraru was validated for the North-Eastern region, Alexandru Popa for the South-Eastern region, Toma Petcu for Southern Muntenia, Gigel Stirbu for South-Western Oltenia, Gheorghe Falca for the Western region, Florin Birta for the North-Western region, Ion Dumitrel for the Central region and Hubert Thuma for the Bucharest-Ilfov region . The president elected of PNL (National Liberal Party), Ilie Bolojan, on Saturday stated that the position of party president is an honourable one and one of great responsibility, showing that he is ready to do everything in his power so that the name of the party becomes similar to that of modernisation of Romania."Considering the history of our party and what it has done for the construction of modern Romania, this is a very honourable position, but at the same time one of great responsibility. If you will give me your support, I am ready to do everything in my power so that the name of the party, PNL, will once again be similar to the modernisation of Romania," said Bolojan, at the Extraordinary Congress of the PNL, where the new leadership of the party is being elected. He added that the PNL is "at the end of a historical cycle," and this cycle ended with last year's parliamentary elections and this year's presidential elections."Today we are in one of the important moments of the PNL in its existence after 1989 and we have the option to be content with our mere political survival, which is not what I wish for, or we can reinvent ourselves to meet the expectations of Romanians, in such a way that we will be a factor of modernisation for our country," said Bolojan. He said that the Liberals have also accumulated "many errors" and should not shy away from talking about them."We have forgotten our values and principles, our identity. We have neglected the young and dynamic electorate, the big cities, the voters with liberal professions. The PNL has lost the organic links it had with the civil society, with the different field of activity, but also with Romanians abroad," said the interim president of the PNL.Ilie Bolojan argued that the Liberals must assume these shortcomings and "come with solutions for them.""We are at the beginning of the road and from my point of view we have two major political objectives. On the one hand, we have good governance, because this is our first responsibility today, the destiny of our country, with respect for the citizens, which should mean two things - in the short term an effort to rebalance the country from a budgetary-economic point of view, and in the medium term we should create conditions for development and prosperity. Domestically and politically, our main objective is to rebuild the Romanian democratic right around the PNL," he said. (Photo:https://www.facebook.com/)
