Staff of PM's Chancellery, reduced by 40%, measure brings a saving of 850,000 RON/month

August 19, 2025

The staff of the Prime Minister's Chancellery will be reduced by 40%, which will generate a monthly saving of 850,000 lei, announced on Friday the head of the Chancellery, Mihai Jurca."In total, including dignitaries, we are talking about 105 positions. We are talking about a reduction, per chancellery as a whole, of 40% of the staff. We will have the same impact in the cost area. Of course, the highest costs are those associated with dignitaries, where the reduction is 48%. We have a 34% reduction in the technical apparatus of the Chancellery. The reduction of the dignitary apparatus brings a saving of 615,000 lei/month. The reduction of the civil service brings a saving of 250,000 lei/month. Monthly expenses are somewhere around 1.9 - 2 million lei/month, with the staff," he said, in a press conference held at the Victoria Palace. The number of state councilors will be reduced from 16 to 11, and the number of state secretaries will be reduced from 5 to 4. The councilor apparatus will decrease from 42 to 14."We are reducing the number of state counselors to 11 positions. State secretaries to 4 positions. The staff of dignitaries will be 14. This means that each state counselor or state secretary will have one counselor, not two. This is also transferred to the prime minister's office, which will no longer have 8 positions. It will have 5 positions. But also to my office, which will not have 3 positions, but 2 positions. The chief of staff, the secretary general, remains," he specified.Mihai Jurca explained that currently the Prime Minister's Chancellery has a total of 176 positions, with 15 vacant positions. Of these, 99 are positions dedicated to the administrative body. The difference of 77 is represented by the positions of public dignitaries (the Prime Minister, the head of the Chancellery, state counselors, state secretaries, but also the apparatus of each dignitary). The organization of the Chancellery will also be modified. Thus:- The Protocol and International Relations Department (which currently has 27 positions) is transformed into a service and will have 12 positions;- The Communication Department (28 positions) is transformed into a service and will have 18 positions;- The Resources Assurance Department, which includes the accounting, procurement budget, human resources (currently with 25 positions) will have 22 positions;- The Public Audit Department (2 positions, currently vacant) will be abolished, this activity being to be ensured by the General Secretariat of the Government:- The Legal Department (2 positions) will increase to 4 positions.A new department (with 7 positions) will also be created, which will document the activity of dignitaries, providing support to interministerial committees and councils.Mihai Jurca emphasized that the reform principles enunciated by the Bolojan administration must also be implemented at the level of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, as these are "mandatory" measures to make its activity more efficient.  (Photo:https://gov.ro/)
