JTI's global IT hub in Romania expands

September 18, 2025

The global hub established by IT in Romania is extended, from 140 employees at the beginning of the year to 170 employees at present, to be over 200 at the end of 2025, shows the press release sent by JTI Romania. Situated in Bucharest, the hub is one of the six technological centres of JTI at global level. Experts in Bucharest provide Digital and IT support for all types of JTI's business operations. The Hub plays a pivotal role within the company, providing support to its 36 factories worldwide, eight research and development centers, business-critical functions such as sales, marketing, finance, as well as people & culture. The diverse range of services includes business technology solutions, data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI and GenAI), software engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure and operations. JTI has over 1,500 employees in Romania, in the headquarters in Bucharest, in the factory, in the technological centre and in the over 30 sales offices in the whole country. The production unit is known at global level as a centre for excellence, exporting to over 70 countries. In 2025, JTI was certified Top Employer in Romania for the twelfth consecutive year, ranking third among 44 locally certified companies, following an assessment by the Top Employers Institute. After rigorous analysis, JTI achieved an excellent score of 96% overall, managing to score 100% in leadership and employee management practices - well above the benchmark of 84%. The assessment took into account some 20 criteria, such as leadership, talent recruitment, onboarding, digitization people & culture, work environment, professional development, learning, ethics and integrity, diversity, fairness and inclusion, well-being, benefits and recognition. ‘Even if we are not an IT company, the technology is part of our DNA. Digital&IT is not only a support function, it is a strategic partner for business which accelerates innovation, improves the processes and creates real value for business. We are always connected to the newest technologies, including generational artificial intelligence (GenAI). A concrete example is ChatJTI, our digital assistant, built internally on the basis of GPT from OpenAI, in a personalized and secure way, adapted to our needs. In a world where the technology shapes everything around, our team from Digital&IT is in the centre of JTI transformations, redefining the way in which we work and build the future’ stated Constantin Alexa, Microsoft Delivery Center Director, JTI Romania. "Top Employer is not just a trophy, it reflects our working environment. But this recognition only tells part of the story. What really sets us apart among employers is our colleagues and the passion they bring to the workplace every day. Many go the extra mile because they care - as if it's their company. Involvement and team spirit make our organizational culture unique. To a future colleague, I would say: come and be part of the story, join a company that inspires you to develop, grow and become the best version of yourself.", added Milena Rajic, People & Culture Director JTI Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria. JTI is one of the first multinational companies established locally in 1993. The company invested over 300 million euro on the local market, plus approximately 33 million euro in social and cultural projects.
