Unanimous opinion in defense committees for the purchase of a light corvette

The minister of defence, Ionut Mosteanu stated on Monday that the members of the defence committees in the parliament offered unanimous opinion in favour of the purchase of a light corvette by the government from Türkiye.‘There was a meeting of the reunited defence commissions in the Senate and the Deputies’ chamber to obtain approval for the purchase of a light corvette which we are going to acquire from Turkiye. It is a procedure started last year through which the Romanian Army will buy a light corvette which is ready, it is produced in Turkiye, it is a purchase, government to government, a corvette from the Turkish army surplus, with modern equipment, NATO interoperability, corvette which the Romanian Army needs. (…) In the end of the discussion with the members of the commissions we got a unanimous opinion for the acquisition’ Mosteanu said in the Parliament Palace.He added that the Black Sea must remain a sea of peace, and this will happen ‘ only if we show we are well equipped and continue the joint missions which we have with the NATO allies’.'The value of this corvette, the price is documented by colleagues in the Ministry of Defense, 223 million euros excluding VAT. On top of this price, there will come the costs for equipment, missiles and other additional equipment; the corvette will be armed in addition to the standard equipment it has,' the Defense Minister said.
