Romgaz enters strategic partnership with Weatherford to digitize production operations

October 9, 2025

The Romgaz state-run company, one of the two biggest gas producers in Romania, announces the signing of a contract with eight years duration with  Weatherford International for the implementation of  a digital system for monitorisation in real time of the probe parameters.   The technology solution provided by Weatherford will enable the collection and transmission of critical data from thousands of wells, helping to optimize production, increase operational efficiency and improve decision making through the use of cloud-based technologies and artificial intelligence.   The contract calls for the implementation of a digital monitoring campaign at existing locations, leveraging the automated infrastructure provided by Weatherford. The systems will provide continuous visibility into wellbore conditions, facilitating rapid interventions and increasing the reliability of operations.   Romgaz SA is the largest producer and main supplier of natural gas in Romania. The company is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). The main shareholder is the Romanian state with a 70% stake. The company has extensive experience in the field of natural gas exploration and production, with a history dating back more than 100 years, to 1909. Romgaz carries out geological exploration to discover new gas deposits, produces methane gas by exploiting fields in the company's portfolio, stores natural gas underground, carries out interventions, capital repairs and special operations at wells and provides professional technological transportation services.   In 2013, Romgaz expanded its scope of activity by assimilating the Iernut thermoelectric power plant, thus becoming an electricity producer and supplier. On August 1, 2022, Romgaz became the sole shareholder of Romgaz Black Sea Limited (established ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Romania Limited), following the completion of the acquisition transaction and transfer of all shares issued by (representing 100% of the share capital of) ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Romania Limited, which holds 50% of the acquired rights and obligations under the Petroleum Agreement for the deepwater area of the offshore XIX Neptun perimeter in the Black Sea.
