KMG Rompetrol Development has completed an eMobility project, co-financed by the European Union, on the A1 Highway

October 30, 2025

KMG Rompetrol Development, the investment vehicle for the retail operations of the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund (FIEKR), has completed the project “Development of Alternative Fuel Infrastructure on the A1 Highway at the RO-HU border,” co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-Transport) and approved on March 15, 2023, by the European Climate, Infrastructure, and Environment Executive Agency. The purpose of the project was the installation of 12 charging stations of 300 kW (each equipped with two 150 kW charging points) and the upgrade of the grid connection, each with a capacity of 600 kVA. For technical and financial reasons, the project was implemented in 11 locations. The stations were installed in service areas managed under service concession contracts concluded with the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration:   A1 Highway, km 558+380, lot 1, Right side – Pecica, Arad County A1 Highway, km 558+380, lot 1, Left side – Pecica, Arad County A1 Highway, km 530+536, lot 2, Right side – Sagu, Arad County A1 Highway, km 530+536, lot 2, Left side – Sagu, Arad County A1 Highway, km 500+596, lot 3, Right side – Giarmata, Timis County A1 Highway, km 500+596, lot 3, Left side – Giarmata, Timis County A1 Highway, km 481+646, lot 4, Right side – Recas, Timis County A1 Highway, km 481+646, lot 4, Left side – Recas, Timis County A1 Highway, km 340+500, lot 8, Right side – Orastie, Hunedoara County A1 Highway, km 340+500, lot 8, Left side – Orastie, Hunedoara County A1 Highway, km 260+160, lot 11, Right side – Cristian, Sibiu County   The completion of the project was marked at the location on the A1 Highway, lot 8 Orastie right side, in the presence of KMG International (Rompetrol) management, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure – General Directorate for the Intermediate Transport Body, and the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (the concessionaire of the A1 highway lots).   “The completed project certifies the commitments made to support increased mobility, diversification of energy solutions, and the reduction of environmental impact. This progress aligns with our efforts in decarbonization and is in line with the overall strategy of the KMG International Group, which focuses on innovation, modernization, and adapting to a constantly changing market,” said Alua Amirova, Group Investments Director at KMG International (Rompetrol).   The stations integrated within the project can serve multiple types of vehicles, including heavy-duty ones. The newly installed facilities utilize technology that enables fast charging, with a full charging cycle estimated to take approximately 20 minutes.   These stations are the first high-power units in the Rompetrol network to feature integrated POS terminals. This solution complies with the requirements of the European AFIR Regulation and, at the same time, offers drivers passing through the A1 highway a faster and more efficient charging experience.   The new stations are integrated with the Rompetrol EV-Charge mobile app, where customers can find information about the 11 stations currently included in the program, details about their charging sessions, and pricing. “The project, carried out with the financial support of the European Union, will provide direct support for cross-border transport and will back our efforts to transition toward low-emission mobility. By adding this new facility for our customers, we are continuously developing the service areas along the A1, unique in the country, where we offer integrated solutions fully aligned with people’s expectations and market trends,” added Laurentiu Coltanel, Group Director Network Planning and Development at KMG International (Rompetrol).   The project “Development of Alternative Fuel Infrastructure by Rompetrol on the A1 Highway at the RO-HU Border” is co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-Transport), with a total investment value of approximately € 2.2 million, of which about € 1 million was granted by the European Union. The project implementation period was 36 months, from November 10, 2022, to November 9, 2025.   KMG Rompetrol Development is the investment vehicle for the retail operations of the Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund (FIEKR), resulting from a partnership between KMG International, which holds an 80% stake, and the Energy Holdings Management Company (SAPE), which holds a 20% stake.
