IRSOP: More than half of Romanians believe America will continue to rule the world

More than half of Romanians (55%) believe that in the next ten years America will continue to lead the world, and 41% that it will lose leadership to China or Russia, according to findings of an IRSOP poll released on Friday.The sociological survey called "Romanians and the American Dream", was carried out to mark the 250th anniversary of the U.S. in 2025.About America, 78% of Romanians have a "good" and "very good" opinion and 21% "not too good" and "very poor."As many as 44% of Romanians say that attracting American investment to Romania should be the main topic of discussions with President Donald Trump when Romania's President Nicusor Dan visits the U.S. Other important topics that should be included in the agenda of the discussions are defence collaboration - 23% of respondents, visas for the US - 15%, tariffs for Romanian exports to the US - 13%, while 5% do not know.Given that the first U.S. President, George Washington, said in 1776 that the United States represents "a great experiment", when asked about the possibility that other states, in the foreseeable future, will surpass the U.S., 52% of respondents were of the opinion that they would not, 45% that they would, and 3% said that they did not know.America's influence on the world is perceived as positive by 62% of respondents, negative by 34%, and 4% do not know. According to the survey, 60% of Romanians believe that artificial intelligence will be a "catastrophe", 35% - a "benefit", and 5% - do not know.A third of Romanians (33%) sympathise with the Democratic Party, of former President Biden, 38% with the Republican Party, of the current President Trump, 24% of respondents did not express their sympathy for either of the two political forces, and 5% answered that they do not know.Most Romanians (64%) say that European countries "are not strong enough" to defend Europe from Russia without America's support, 34% say the opposite, and 2% do not know. 65% of respondents believe that the U.S. dollar will continue to be "very strong/strong" in the coming years, 33% - "not too strong/very weak", and 2% do not know.Over half of Romanians (55%) consider that the American military presence in Romania is enough, 31% say that it is too small, 10% - too large, and 4% - do not know. As for the increase in the number of American military bases located in Romania, 60% of the survey participants agree, 37% - disagree, and 3% - do not know.About two-thirds of Romanians (68%) claim that the entrepreneurial spirit of each individual is not encouraged in Romania, while 27% appreciate the opposite, and 5% do not know.The IRSOP survey was conducted between October 2-8, on a representative sample of 1,017 people over 18 years old, interviewed by phone. The sampling tolerance is +/-3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
