The Senate President, Mircea Abrudean, opened on Monday the works of the plenary reunion of the NATO Industrial Consultative Group (NIAG), taking place at the Parliament Palace, occasion on which he emphasized Romania’s commitment to the objectives of the organisation. In the message adressed to the participants, the Senate President emphasized the essential role of NIAG as a brdige between NATO and the defense industry of the member states, offering a structured and constructive channel for information regarding the newest trends and innovative solutions, a press release published on Monday on the site of the legislative forum says. Abrudean reiterated Romania’s commitment to the NATO objectives and mentioned our country’s efforts to transform investments in defense into an engine of economic growth and technological progress. Among the major projects mentioned are the investment of the South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace in a new shell factory in Dambovita county, which will generate up to 2,000 jobs, as well as the partnership with Rheinmetall for the construction in Brasov of the most modern dust factory in the European Union with an investment of over 500 million euros. The event brought together representatives of the defence industry from the North Atlantic Alliance member states, NATO experts and officials, in a dialogue framework dedicated to industrial cooperation and technological innovation in the field of defence. The NIAG plenary meeting, held for the first time in Bucharest, provides a framework for extensive cooperation between NATO and the defence industry, with the aim of identifying practical solutions for building a safer and more stable future, reads the release quoted.
