More than 28,400 building permits for residential constructions were issued in the first nine months of this year, up 4.2% compared with the same period of last year, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.The number of building permits increased in the following development regions: West (+301 permits), Centre (+245), Bucharest-Ilfov (+163), South-West Oltenia (+122), North-East (+120), North-West (+119), South-Muntenia (+63) and South-East (+24).In September 2025, 3,598 building permits for residential constructions were issued, up 2.6% compared with August 2025, with a total usable floor area of 1,010,660 square metres (up 29.8%). Of the total building permits for residential constructions, 69.7% were issued in rural areas.On the other hand, for non-residential buildings, 610 building permits were issued in September this year (+8.3% compared with August 2025), covering a total usable floor area of 377,598 square metres (-4.3%).Compared with the previous month, September 2025 recorded a decrease in the usable floor area of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-16,900 square metres).At the same time, September 2025 saw an increase both in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (+3.1%) and in the total usable floor area (+45.8%) compared with September 2024.Compared with September 2024, September 2025 also recorded an increase in both the number of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (+7.4%) and the total usable floor area (+47.0%).
