General Christopher Donahue, commander of the US Land Forces in Europe and Africa, visiting the 57th Mihail Kogalniceanu base in Constanta is a good signal for Romania, defence minister Ionut Mosteanu stated on Tuesday."General Donahue came today to join the American soldiers at the Mihail Kogalniceanu base in celebrating Thanksgiving. They invited us too, it was supposed to be a day just for celebration. It is not such a day, however, as we have a new incursion of a Russian drone, a new provocation from Russia against Romania," stated Mosteanu. He added that the incident with the drone that fell in a locality in Vaslui is forcing him to interrupt his visit to the Mihail Kogalniceanu base, as he needs to leave for Bucharest."Returning to the present day and the fact that General Donahue is here, this is a very good signal for Romania, a signal that we have a lot to build on. We are on a path of over 30 years of partnership and this is something that helps us to be optimistic when it comes to the future. The fact that we have these troops here, we have the American flag on Romanian territory, is also valuable for Romania's security," said the minister of defence.According to him, a new anti-aircraft capability will enter the operational service of the Romanian Army soon "and will give us an increased capacity to shoot down these drones. We need to be able to better cope with these types of challenges". (Photo:https://armed.mapn.ro/)
