British prime minister starts today a visit to Romania

January 7, 2016

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis will welcome British Prime Minister David Cameron at the presidential Cotroceni Palace on Wednesday, with the two officials to make a joint press statement, official sources said on Tuesday. Cameron will be paying a visit to Romania, being also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos. According to the sources, the talks will also focus on the migrant crisis. David Cameron will first meet Dacian Ciolos, at 3:30 pm, at Victoria Palace, then he will be received by President Iohannis at the presidential palace at 4:45 pm.  The British prime minister visited Bulgaria last week. Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos said on Tuesday that Romania wants Great Britain to remain in the European Union, stating that this would be beneficial both for London as well as for Brussels. "Romania has clearly stated it already — we want Great Britain to remain in the European Union, which is something in the interest of both Great Britain as well as the European Union. In most part, we start with a positive approach of the points brought to discussion by the United Kingdom of Great Britain," Ciolos told the discussions with the members of the joint parliamentary committees for European affairs. He added that in the European Council to be held next week the United Kingdom would make some proposals for "reforming or adapting the functioning way of the European Union," in the context of London preparing a referendum on remaining or leaving the EU. "Tomorrow I will have a meeting with Prime Minister Cameron, who will be visiting also Romania before this Council," PM Ciolos said.
