Iohannis: Turkey plays key role in migrant crisis solution

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis attended the European Union-Turkey Summit in Brussels on Sunday, on which occasion he stressed Turkey plays a key role in reaching a solution to the migrant crisis and underscored Romania supports the advancement of the process of Turkey's EU accession.According to a release of the Presidential Administration, Iohannis, in an address to the gathering praised the re-launch of the relations with Turkey based on renewed commitment to obtaining concrete results. "The head of state pointed out the key role that Turkey plays in reaching a solution to the current migrant crisis", the release said, adding that highlighted was the need of a common action of the EU and Turkey to combat the deep causes of the migration phenomenon. In this respect, the Romanian leader said he supports the moves made by the international community with a view to identifying a political solution to the conflict in Syria. "President Klaus Iohannis underlined that Romania supports the advancement of the process of Turkey's accession to the European Union and mentioned the strategic partnership between the two countries. He also pronounced for stepping up the moves for lifting the visas for the Turkish citizens, by Turkey's meeting the commitments made in this respect", the President's Office said.
