Metro strike, postponed

November 20, 2018

The General Council of ‘Unitatea’ – Metro Free Trade Union (USLM) decided on Tuesday to postpone the launch of the general strike until after a first meeting with the new Transport Minister, informs USLM. “Given that when we sent yesterday’s press release [Monday, ed.n] I did not have the confirmation of the change of the Ministry of Transport’s leadership, the General Council of USLM gathered today, 20 November 2018, in an extraordinary meeting, has decided to postpone the strike until after the new Transport Minister had taken office and the first meeting with the latter as the mediator of the present collective labor dispute, at a date we will announce,” USLM points out. The Bucharest Tribunal ruled the warning strike triggered by the ‘Unitatea’ – Metro Free Trade Union on 15.11.2018 is illegal for breaking the Social Dialogue Law, metro operator Metrorex said on Monday. Metrorex employees were supposed to go on general strike for an indefinite period beginning Wednesday, November 21 between 4:00 – 16:00 hrs.
