November 23, 2018

Foreign Affairs minister Teodor Melescanu is in Seoul as of Friday, for a three-day visit, to celebrate 10 years since the strategic partnership between Romania and the Republic of Korea was established, according to Yonhap. The South Korean chief diplomat, Kang Kyung-wha, called on Romania on this occasion to play a key-role in advocating the peace process in the Korean Peninsula, next year in particular, when Romania will hold the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, 1 January to 30 June. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of Romania’s “voice and leader role” in a moment when the diplomatic efforts of Korea focus on the complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and the achievement of a durable peace. In his turn, Minister Melescanu referred to Korea as to one of the most important partners of Romania and asserted that the development of the bilateral political and economic relations are a priority topic. The formin said that Romania hopes to identify significant support ways to furthering the peace process. Teodor Melescanu’s visit in South Korea is the fist part of a tour that is to end on 27 November and will also comprise India, the Bucharest MAE announced.
