Romania’s Centenary at the Radio Hall: Horia Andreescu conducts Enescu and Ciprian Porumbescu’s works

November 29, 2018

On Friday, November 30 (at 7.00 PM), the Radio Hall will be the host of an extraordinary concert dedicated to Romania’s Centenary. Under the baton of the appreciated conductor HORIA ANDREESCU, the National Radio Orchestra will perform a 100% Romanian program, especially selected for the centennial event. The evening will start with the score of Suite roumaine signed by George Enescu; you will further listen to the “Sapte cantece” (e.n. – “Seven Songs”), also signed by the great composer, lyrics by Clement Marot (orchestra: Th. Grigoriu) – with the participation of soprano IRINA IORDACHESCU. Accustomed to the two famous rhapsodies signed by Enescu, the audience will have the opportunity to listen to a beautiful score at the Radio Hall, which is rarely performed on the concert stages: the Romanian Rhapsody signed by Ciprian Porumbescu, which reflects with in a highly touching way the specificity of the Romanian spirit. The program of the extraordinary concert also includes fragments of the soundtrack of the movie “Mihai Viteazul” (1971, directed by Sergiu Nicolaescu), a suite signed by Tiberiu Olah, and “Trei dansuri romanesti” (e.n. – “Three Romanian Dances”), a creation of composer Theodor Rogalski. The event will include the participation of the Radio Academic Choir (conductor: CIPRIAN TUTU). During the break of the event, the Casa Radio Publishing House will mark the celebration of the Centenary of the Great Union by launching two music albums: – Romania Centenar – a CD that includes recordings of the Radio Romania Record Library, a representative selection for this editorial concept, under the brand of Radio Romania Muzical; – Cantecele Unirii – an album with Romanian patriotic songs, such as “Ce-ti doresc eu tie, dulce Romanie!”, “Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire” sau „Treceti, batalioane romane, Carpatii!” – recently recorded by the Radio Academic Choir (conductor: CIPRIAN TUTU). The event will be attended by the Manager of Radio Romania Muzical, Cristina Comandasu. The Centennial Concert ends, at the Radio Hall, one month of extraordinary events, opened on November 1 by the concert celebrating 90 years of existence of Radio Romania, and continued by the events held under the RadiRo Festival (the 4th edition), the only festival in the world dedicated to the radio orchestras. HORIA ANDREESCU is the leading conductor of the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, and for more than 18 years, he was the artistic director and the leading conductor of the Radio Romania Orchestras and Choirs. In ‘80s and ‘90s, he was a permanent guest of some important German ensembles: the Berlin Radio Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, and the State Chapel of Schwerin. Over the time, he conducted outstanding ensembles, such as the State Chapel of Berlin, the Comic Opera of Berlin, the London Symphonic Orchestra, the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the BBC Scotland Symphonic Orchestra, the symphonic orchestras of Vienna, Jerusalem, Reykjavik, Alabama and Taipei, the radio orchestras of Vienna, Leipzig, Hamburg, Köln, Copenhagen, Madrid and others. One of his special initiatives is printing the full catalogue of Enescu’s symphonic works, a world premier that took place at Olympia in ‘90s and re-edited by Electrecord in 2015. IRINA IORDACHESCU, the daughter of the great baritone Dan Iordachescu, is a soloist of the Bucharest National Opera since 2005, but she has been remarked since 2001 as a guest of Teatro alla Scala – Milano, where she held two vocal-symphonic concerts under the baton of Riccardo Muti. Also, she collaborated with other foreign musical institutions, such as the Mulhouse Symphonic Orchestra (France), L’Estro Armonico of Luxemburg, the Ciudad de Murcia Classical Orchestra (Spain), the Thessaloniki State Philharmonic Orchestra (Greece), the Veneta Philharmonic Orchestra (Italy) and the BRabants Orchestra from the Netherlands. She held concerts along with Gheorghe Zamfir at Carnegie Hall in New York, in Chicago, in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa. IN 2012, Irina Iordachescu was invited to sing Musetta from „La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini, at the Glyndebourne Festival (UK).
