European Commissioner Cretu inaugurates Centennial Bridge in Oradea, one of largest investments for current 2014-2020 programming period

European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Cretu said on Monday that the project of the Centennial Bridge in northwestern Oradea, built from European cohesion funds, worth 3.3 million euro, is “emblematic” and one of the largest investments for the current 2014-2020 programming period. “I think it is an emblematic project, one of the largest investments in the current 2014-2020 programming period. I congratulate you on this work that you have done in record time,” Corina Cretu said at the inauguration of the Centennial Bridge. According to Mayor Ilie Bolojan, the final value of the bridge is 3.3 million euro, of which 2.6 million euro is European grant, the difference being local co-financing. “I take this opportunity to thank the European Commission, through Mrs. Cretu, for the funding it has provided to Romania and implicitly, to our city, because every year since we joined the European Union we have doubled our investment budgets as a result of winning European projects. And I said that it was appropriate fir this bridge, the Centennial Bridge, to have all the flags of the European Union as a form of respect for the contribution of European citizens to the cohesion funds we have accessed,” Mayor Ilie Bolojan said. The Centennial Bridge was built in eight and a half months, the largest structure of its kind in the country, an arched bridge, with support only on the banks, 80-meter long, 18-meter wide, with two lanes and 3-meter wide sidewalks for both pedestrians and cyclists.
