The European Commission approved an investment of over 175 million euro in Olt county

October 5, 2021

The European Commission announced on Monday that they approved an investment of over 175 million euro from the Fund of cohesion for the modernisation and installation of a new drinking water and waste water infrastructure in Olt county.    ‘The Commission approved an investment of over 175 million euro from the Cohesion Fund for the modernisation and installation of a new drinking water and waste water infrastructure in Olt county, Romania. The new infrastructure will reduced the leakages and interruptions in water supply, thus contributing to meeting the requirements of the EU Directive regarding drinking water to Romania’ the European Commission said.   This investment from EU funds will contribute to the socio-economic development at local level through the improvement of the living standards of the inhabitants in the rural areas and by the creation of work places both in the construction stage and in the placing into service stage.    ‘The project is a perfect example of the way in which the cohesion policy brings direct benefits to the European citizens, keeping and protecting the environment and promoting the efficient use of the resources’ the Commissionaire for cohesion and reforms, Elisa Ferrreira said.   The waste waters grid will be extended by 259.08 km, and with 37.87 km will be improved in the existing system. At the same time, another 64.41 km of evacuation pipes will be installed and ten pumping units for waste waters will be modernized and another 156 new units will be built.
