PNL's Citu: There's a discussion to extend number of ministries to at most 20

December 8, 2021

The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Florin Citu, stated, on Tuesday, after the meeting with the Social Democrat Party (PSD), Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and the parliamentary group of national minorities, that there is a discussion regarding the increase in the number of ministries to at most 20."We did not discuss about ministries or about the Prime Minister position. We talked about the governing programme and a calendar for coming days. We are trying to have a stable Government as fast as possible. (...) There is a discussion to extend the number of ministries (...) to at most 20," said Citu, at the Parliament Palace.    Florin Citu also said on Tuesday that discussions with Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and the national minorities, others than the Hungarian one, have focused on the calendar of the ruling program, adding that on Wednesday, important points on the economic and social side will be addressed."It was a first discussion in the format of PSD, UDMR and minorities and we discussed a timetable in which we will talk about the government program. Tomorrow we will start with the important points on the economic and social side and, after that, we will move on," Citu said at the Parliament Palace. He said he supports any increase in revenues if the economy allows it.According to Citu, taxes will not be raised in the next period, adding that the progressive taxation supported by the PSD was not addressed. At the same time, there was no discussion about the measures proposed by the PSD regarding the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR)."Maybe, they will be discussed in the future. We'll see what can be done. The problem is that as regards the PNRR nothing can be changed for a very long period of time. There we can talk, but nothing can be done," the PNL chair said.
