Virgil Popescu : the crisis of natural gas is an artificial crisis, created by the Russian Federation through Gazprom

December 16, 2021

The crisis of natural gas is artificially created by the Russian Federation through Gazprom and I think it is necessary to have a common front of all member states to stop this energy crisis, stated on Wednesday the interim minister of energy, Virgil Popescu at the National Top of Companies 2021, event organised by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania (CCIR).   " ‘After a difficult year, there followed economic growth of 2021, for the Romanian economy and the European economy, but we started to face the crisis of raw materials, prices for energy and natural gas, which are reflected in the economy. We have taken measures, so that we support, besides the citizens the small and medium enterprises so that we can survive this winter. One week ago, we injected 500 million lei in the economy to the big consumers of energy, which have tens of thousands of people employed and who need support on an aid framework which we approved at the end of 2019 and which will continue. We want to inject money in the economy, we need financial intervention in the economy to help the companies to survive during this period. Pandemics plus energy crisis is not a good thing. We have to be very careful, as the pandemics is not over yet. We need to be prudent, as the Romanians’ health is first. We have a crisis of natural gas which is an artificial crisis created by the Russian Federation through Gazprom. We saw how sensitive the market of natural gas is. The moment the German regulator announced that they will postpone the approval of the North Stream 2 pipeline, the price of natural gas automatically went up. I think it is necessary to have a common action of all member states to stop this energy crisis’ Popescu said. (Photo:https://www.facebook.com/ccir.romania/)
