Survey: Corruption, the main reason why Romanians leave country

January 6, 2022

86% of respondents to a survey consider corruption as the main reason why more and more Romanians leave the country. At the same time, 91% of participants in the survey think that because of corruption in Romania there are no new hospitals and highways, while 87% consider this country does not access more European funds because of corruption.   The survey was made on the phone, at national level, from the order of European MP Vlad Gheorghe (USR), over November 28- December 5, on a representative sample of 1,400 persons and has an error margin of 2.9%.   According to the study, Romanians are prevented by corruption to have pensions and salaries at European level, 84% of people interviewed said, while 82% consider that Romanians are not respected in Europe and Romania does not have the influence deserved in EU because of this phenomenon. Moreover, over half of Romanians (52%) consider that the country has not joined Schengen because of corruption. Also, 94% of Romanians consider corruption as being spread and much spread in Romania.   Mentioned should be made that a high percentage of participants in the study connect corruption to environment crimes: 91% of them consider that it influences the import of illegal wastes in Romania, while 89% think that forest fellings are closely linked to corruption.   Recently, USR European MP Vlad Gheorghe suggested the setting up of a Green European Prosecutor to fight environment crimes at the level of all EU members, similar to the Prosecution headed by former DNA chief, Laura Codruta Kovesi.
