Gov't debt down to 552.39 billion lei in end-October, representing 48.2pct of GDP

The public administration debt (government debt) stood at 552.385 billion lei at the end of the first ten months of 2021, down from 556.362 billion lei in September, according to the data centralized by the Ministry of Finance.In terms of GDP, the public debt accounted for 48.2pct of GDP at the end of October (48.5pct of GDP at the end of September 2021).The medium and long term debt amounted to 531.070 billion lei, and the short term debt to 21.314 billion lei.Most of this debt, approximately 469.29 billion lei, represented government securities. The loans amounted to 73.809 billion lei.An amount of 252.016 billion lei represented the government debt in lei, 255.957 billion lei represented the government debt in euros and 42.914 billion lei represented the equivalent debt in US dollars.At the end of October, the debt of the central public administration amounted to 536.367 billion lei, of which 515.079 billion lei represented the medium and long term debt. Most of the central government debt was contracted in euros (251.956 billion lei, equivalent) and in lei (240.001 billion lei).The debt of the local public administration amounted to 16.017 billion lei, of which 15,991 billion lei in the medium and long term.According to the Ministry of Public Finance, the external debt of the public administration accounted for 279.23 billion lei (24.4pct of GDP), of which 274.543 billion lei represented the external debt of the central public administration and 4.666 billion lei represented the external debt of the local public administration.
