Health Ministry starts action to bring Paxlovid antiviral medicine by Pfizer to Romania

The Health Ministry announces actions to bring Paxlovid to Romania, the first medicine against Covid 19 produced by Pfizer and approved by FDA. As part of preparations for wave 5 of the pandemic, Alexandru Rafila, the health minister, had a meeting with Pfizer representative on Thursday, to identify solutions and ensure treatment for Romanian patients as soon as possible.   Paxlovid is an antiviral medicine with oral intake, to be authorized by the European Medicines Agency. The treatment is recommended to patients with high risk of developing a severe form of the illness. Studies show it reduces hospitalization and death risks by 90% if administered in the first days of illness.Paxlovid was approved by FDA.   “Vaccination remains the main way of limiting pandemic, next to other public health measures, ensuring home testing and treatment”, said Dr Alexandru Rafila, the minister of health.
