Incomes dropped by 1% in telecommunication sector in first semester

Incomes of the telecommunication sector registered a slight drop of -1% in the first of 2021, totaling 8.4 billion lei (1.7 billion euros). Of all incomes, mobile telephony generated 36%, fixed and mobile Internet 33%, retransmission of TV programs 14%, fixed telephony 9%, and the other types of networks/services were 8%, according to data released by ANCOM. At national level, 7 out of 10 households have fixed Internet connections.   “Incomes in the telecommunication sector recorded a slight drop (-1%) in the first half of 2021, totaling 8.4 billion lei. Mobile telephony generated 36% of total incomes, fixed and mobile Internet 33%, retransmission of TV programs 14%, fixed telephony 9% and the other types of services 8%. According to incomes obtained from electronic communications, the first 3 suppliers were: Orange (25%), Vodafone (24%) and Telekom group (24%)”, ANCOM data show.   Fixed Internet traffic reached 50GB/month/person.   “In the first half of 2021, the Internet returns to pre-pandemic increase rates: 3% increase of connections, 6% fixed Internet traffic increase. More than 3 million households were connected with optic fiber capable of high speeds. 70% of mobile Internet connections are 4G and 5G, a semestrial increase of 4%, so that the average monthly traffic per capita almost reached 6G,”said Eduard Lovin, ANCOM vicepresident at the 18th edition of Mobile Communications Gala.   Fixed Internet   With +166,000 new connections in the first 6 months, the overall number reached 5.85 millions (+3%), 82% allowing speeds that exceed 100Mbps. The average monthly traffic reached 50GB per person (about 1.7 GB/day). At national level, 7 out of 10 households have fixed Internet connections, that is 8 out of 10 in the urban area and 5 out of 10 in the rural area, but increase in the rural area (+6%) is superior to that in the urban area (+1%). According to the number of connections, the first three suppliers were: RCS&RDS (61%), Telekom group (17%) and Vodafone (12%).   Mobile Internet   The total number of active connections (20.5 millions) remained relatively the same, while 69% of them allow 4G and 5G. 18.8 million connections (+1%) refer to mobile telephony while 1.7 millions are devoted to mobile Internet by means of modem/card/USB (-6%). Average monthly traffic was 5.8GB per person, that is about 200 MB/day. According to the number of active connections, the first 3 suppliers were : Orange (39%), Vodafone (25%) and RCS&RDS (20%).   Mobile telephony   The number of active SIM cards is relatively the same, and the increase by 300,000 of the number of SIM cards with subscription was canceled by the drop by 400,000 of the number of prepaid cards.   Voice traffic was about 35 billion minutes (-1%), which means a monthly average per person of 5 hours and 4 minutes, while the short message traffic dropped by half in the last 2 years, reaching a monthly average of 24 messages/person. According to the number of active SIM cards, the first three suppliers were Orange (38%), Vodafone (29%) ad RCS&RDS (17%).   Fixed telephony   The drop of the number of subscribers and lines continued (-8%), but the total traffic of voice dropped only by 4%. According to the number of subscribers, the first 3 suppliers were: RCS&RDS (40%), Telekom group (37%) and Vodafone (21%).   Television   7.8 million subscribers to TV services (-0.1%), of whom 6 millions through cable (77%, semestrial increase by +3%), 1.6 millions via satellite- DTH (-9%) and 0.1 millions (-3%) through IPTV.   According to the number of subscribers the first 3 suppliers were: RCS&RDS (63%), Telekom group (14%) and Vodafone (11%).   Statistic data report about the electronic communications market in Romania for semester 1, 2021 was made by ANCOM based on statistic data reported by suppliers every 6 months to ANCOM.
