Survey : the Romanians want to relax more during this year, after a difficult 2021

February 22, 2022

Many Romanian employees want to reserve more time for relaxation, after 2021 when the level of stress and the work volume was higher than before. This year, there are 15 legal free days, out of which 9 during the week and to get more time for relaxation, 55% of the employees who benefit from free days on the occasion of legal holidays stated they will take more free days, where it is possible, to bridge the weekend, shows a survey of the online recruitment platform BestJobs.   In 2021, only half of the Romanians used the holiday days completely. Out of those left with holiday days, 20% still have under five days, and 16% between six and ten days, 3% of them plan to take the money for them and another 3% have no plan. At the same time, 61% plan to take all the holiday days, 9% plan to keep some of them, while 30% have no holidays plan.   ‘2021 was a difficult year for most of the employees, being a year where the economy came back strongly towards the level before the pandemics, after 2020 very complicated for everybody. Moreover, due to the restrictions generated by the covid-19 pandemics and the uncertainties regarding the travel restrictions, last year many employees preferred to work more and not take their free days. Relaxation is essential for health, and a very intense working rhythm cannot be kept for a long time without negative effects as regards physical and psychical health’ says Ana Visan, marketing manager BestJobs Romania.   The need for relaxation is clearly felt this year, in the context where 42% of the Romanians stated they will take at least ten days in a row for holidays this year and 40% will get together between five and ten days. Moreover, only 3% say they will take less than five days.   At the same time, most Romanians (76%) plan to reserve most holidays days for summer, 9% during legal holidays, and 6% prefer to take fewer, but more often. The issue of a high volume of work is still present, as 42% are not sure if the work volume allows them to have the wanted holiday.   As regards the restrictions on the part of the employer, 45% of the employees will take into consideration not to have a holiday at the same time with their team colleagues, 21% will have to be careful about the period when they want free days, and 9% will be careful about the duration of the holiday. The BestJobs survey was made between 7 and 20 January 2022, on a sample of 761 internet users.   BestJobs is one of the biggest online recruitment platforms in Romania. At any moment, on BestJobs there are over 4.6 million professionals connected to the work market, over 30,000 jobs and thousands of freelancers, recruitment agents, coaches, mentors, therapists, lawyers and other types of specialists.
