Aurescu at Munich Security Conference: Aggressive actions of Russian Federation project global consequences

Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu took part on Saturday, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, in the debate on the multidimensional security challenges on the Black Sea, and he emphasized that Russia's agreesive actions affect the stability of the region, of Europe, of the Euro-Atlantic area and have global consequences.According to a Foreign Ministry (MAE) release sent on Sunday, the debates within the event "Security in the Black Sea Region: From Cyberstorm and Political Brinkmenship to Broader Confrontation?" focused on the elements of geopolitical competition currently highlighted by current security developments in the Black Sea region.Participants in the debate referred to the current security crisis, foreshadowed by the militarization of the region, the impact of energy and cyber security, propaganda and misinformation and their implications from the perspective of member states or aspirants to join NATO and the EU.In his speech, the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the importance of the debate organized by the Romanian think tank New Strategy Center (NSC), in cooperation with the American think tank Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) for an exchange of views on the complex and multiple challenges facing the Black Sea region, as well as the implications of recent security developments in the area.The head of the Romanian diplomacy pointed out that the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation, including the unprecedented deployment of troops since the end of the Cold War, on the border with Ukraine, have negative effects on all Eastern partners and affect the stability of the region, Europe, the Euro-Atlantic area and project global consequences.Bogdan Aurescu referred to the concerns expressed by Romania constantly, related to the militarization of the Black Sea by Moscow, in parallel with the use of complex elements of hybrid warfare - cyber attacks, damage to energy security, propaganda and misinformation, various other destabilization actions.According to the MAE, the Romanian Foreign Minister stressed the need for a long-term strategy for the Black Sea region, based on several dimensions: consolidating and adapting NATO's deterrent and defence stance on the Eastern Flank; intensified commitment to the EU's and NATO's eastern partners, including an increased dimension of security cooperation, as part of a broader approach to strengthening the Euro-Atlantic community of values and security, European and Euro-Atlantic partnerships, advancing the region's economic development opportunities, developing strategic transport infrastructure for increased interconnection with the EU and NATO, promoting and defending democratic values, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.  (Photo:http://www.mae.ro/node/57825)
