The EU analyzes an emergency synchronization of the energy system in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with the European one

The Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, announced in a press release that the EU member states are analyzing the technical conditions for achieving an emergency synchronization of the energy system in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova with the European one.   Currently, the power systems of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova operate in isolation from other neighboring energy systems and are disconnected from Russia, Virgil Popescu recalled after the extraordinary meeting of the Energy Council.   According to him, both in Romania and in the Member States, the supply situation is stable, without risks for the current winter, and the EU is ready to activate emergency plans as the situation requires. The Minister of Energy pointed out, in the context, that a priority is the preparation for next winter, stating that he supports maximizing the efficiency of storage capacities and exploring alternative supply routes.   “Romania supports the strategic partnership between the EU and Azerbaijan and the operationalization of the Southern Gas Corridor, including the BRUA project. […] In the medium and long term, it is important to diversify sources of supply in order to reduce dependence on imports from Russia, to continue investing in new low-carbon energy capabilities, to increase energy efficiency and interconnections at EU level” the minister also transmitted.
