Avangarde Survey : 68% of the Romanians consider that the aggression against Ukraine is unjustifiable

Russian military aggression against Ukraine is not justifiable, appreciate 68% of the Romanians while 71% consider that Russia has committed crimes against the civil population in Ukraine, according to the study ‘ About war and patriotism’, made by the Group for Socio-Behavioural Studies Avangarde published on Wednesday.Asked if the Russian military aggression against Ukraine is a justifiable and right one, 68% answered ‘no’ while 8% answered ‘yes’. 22% stated they cannot appreciate this, and 2% refused to answer.34% of the participants to the study estimated that the war will be won by Russia, 18% indicated Ukraine and 48% could not appreciate.At the same time, 71% considered that Russia committed crimes against the civil population in Ukraine, 4% considered that Russia did not commit such crime, and 25% could not appreciate or refused to offer an answer.Only 8% of the participants to the study consider that Russia will attack Romania, while 61% had a contrary opinion.Asked what their opinion about Russia is: 1% answered that they have a very good opinion, 6% said they have a good opinion while 53% stated they have a negative opinion and 28% said they a very bad opinion about Russia.42% consider that this is not the right moment for Romania to get a union with the Republic of Moldova and 33% of the interviewees consider that Romania should not get united to the Republic of Molodva. Only 11% were in favour of this union, while 14% refused to answer the question.   Asked if the Romanians living in the country would join the army, in case of war on the Romanian territory, 39% said ‘no’ , 30% said ‘yes’ while 31% could not appreciate or refused to answer. As regards the Romanians from the diaspora, 52% said they wouldn’t join the army in case of conflict on the Romanian territory and only 18% said the opposite.   As regards the opportunity of censure by the government of some information in the press, during the war in Ukraine, 50% did not agree with it, while 27% agreed with it.38% of the interviewees considered that the press in Romania presented the war news in an objective way, while 33% considered that the mass-media did not present the news objectively.47% opposed the reintroduction of the compulsory military service, while 30% would agree to it.In case of war on the Romanian territory, 46% said they would not leave the country, and 26% said they would.As regards the president of the US, Joe Biden, 37% of the participants to the study said they have a good opinion, 30% said they have a bad opinion, and 33% stated they have no opinion.69% have a bad opinion about the president of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin and 3% have a good opinion.As for the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, 41% of the Romanians have a good opinion, and 25% have a bad opinion.49% of the interviewees have a good opinion about the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and 14% have a bad opinion about her.As regards the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, 34% of the participants to the study have a good opinion, while 27% have a bad opinion.36% have a good opinion about the British premier,  Boris Johnson and 25% an unfavourable opinion.   At the same time, 18% have a good opinion about the Hungarian premier, Viktor Orban while 41% have a bad opinion. Asked who would be the Romanian politician they trust most to manage the situation in Romania, as a result of the war in Ukraine, 8% indicated Nicolae Ciuc[ and 8% Mircea Geoana. 41% considered that no politician could manage the situation in Romania as a result of the war in Ukraine, 3% indicated other names and 40% did not offer an answer.The study ‘About war and patriotism’ was made by the Group for Socio-Behavioural Studies Avangarde between 20th January and 22nd March, on a sample of 701 subjects, by CATI method ( phone calls). The survey made on adult non-institutionalised population of Romania has an error margin of 3.9% for trust level of 95%.
