EU wheat exports in 2021-2022 season that ended on June 30, went up by 6.8% to 27.47 million tons from 25.71 million tons in 2020/2021 season, according to data released by the European Commission, Reuters informs. EC figures show that France was the largest wheat exporter in EU with 8.276 million tons exported in 2021/2022, followed by Romania with 6.388 million tons.   EC data also show that EU corn exports have almost doubled to 5.994 million tons in 2021/2022, from 2.833 million tons exported in the previous season. For this chapter Romania is the undeniable EU leader , exporting 4.298 million tons of corn, that is over 71% of the total of 5.994 million tons of corn exported by the community block in the season that just ended.   Corn is a product for which EU is a net importer, especially for feeding animals. EU corn imports in 2021/2022 amounted to 16.37 million tons, on the rise by 7.6% from 15.22 million tons in the previous season. Half of the corn imported by EU in 2021/2022 came from Ukraine. In exchange, EU barley exports dropped by 6.1% in 2021/2022, to 6.97 million tons from 7.42 million tons in 2020/2021.   In this case, Romania was the second largest barley exporter with 1.735 million tons, surpassed by France with 3.314 million tons of barley exported in 2021/2022. EC points out that data are based on customs figures supplied by the 27 EU member states and may be reviewed in the following weeks.
