Bucharest hosting 22nd Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum

July 21, 2022

The Chamber of Deputies' Committee on Defense, Public Order and National Security is organizing on Thursday and Friday at the Palace of Parliament the 22nd Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum titled "The War in Ukraine: Reshaping the Global Security Map"."On the sidelines of the geopolitical realignment following Ukraine's invasion by the Russian Federation, the Forum was conceived as an international platform that will bring together MPs, government officials, representatives of international organizations, the civil society and the private sector to discuss issues such as the present and the future of diplomacy, the dynamics of international security threats, risks and vulnerabilities, the importance of energy security and the impact of emerging technologies on cyberspace," Committee chairman, Liberal MP Pavel Popescu, said as cited in a release.Pavel Popescu mentions that, "with the Black Sea area now the epicenter of a dynamic of power balance among global actors, the regional context offers Romania both benefits and responsibilities in terms of security and defense.""Thus, Romania has the opportunity to capitalize on its national and geostrategic potential, redefining its projection on the multilateral dimension, together with allied and partner states. The contribution of parliamentary diplomacy to this desideratum materializes in the organization of the 22nd Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum, an event that will bring together participants from over 50 countries to address subjects from the security spectrum, in the light of the conflict in Ukraine, with a view to identifying ways to counter current challenges and define prospects for strengthening liberal democracies to prevent the onslaught of autocratic forces," Popescu added.
