Study: 38% of Romanians prefer buying online to better control monthly budget

July 21, 2022

Romanians have adapted their purchase behavior, in the context of a high inflation rate. Thus, 38% of them choose to buy the products they need online in order to better control their monthly budget, according to Innoship technology startup which developed a delivery management platform for online stores worldwide.   The company shows that in 2021 Romanians bought, on the average, goods of 17 million euros per day, while for 2022 they estimate an increase of 5-10% compared to 2021 when 6.2 billion euros were recorded.   That was the main conclusion resulting from the analysis of over 100 online shops. An important factor for online shops is the expedition policy.   “A rapid delivery process and the flexibility of multiple delivery options offered at checkout will encourage online purchases, thus increasing sales. Through the services offered by Innoship we lay at the retailers' disposal varied delivery methods, adapted to each collaborator's specific and especially to their customers' needs,” says Daniel Nicolae, Innoship founder.   Fixed point delivery, same day delivery, delivery at a certain hour or 24 hour delivery became very popular lately.   The purchase experience makes the difference between medium and long term. Competitive online stores are those that succeeded in investing in technologies which improve the customers' perception and answer their dynamic needs.   Difficulties faced by Romanian traders when they manage their businesses are mainly increased competition (21% of retailers) and product supply and delivery (18%), VTEX data show ( digital trade platform).   Product images count for 83% in the purchase decision, followed by description and specifications (82%) and customer reviews (75%), according to 2018 data supplied by Emarketer.com.   “Online shops need a good marketing strategy to be where customers are. But, beyond marketing, products and experiences offered are important. A good marketing strategy is not enough to attract customers if you promote a low quality product or service,” said Denis Sgarbura, head of content strategy DWF.   The analysis showed that online shops need additional support to increase their businesses and remain competitive. So the idea of launching a Guide for e-Commerce managers was born, including 28 recommendations with case examples from over ten retail, web design, UX, SEO, PPC campaigns, process optimization, law and logistic for sales increase made in collaboration with VTEX, OLX, GpeC, DWF, easySales, Senior Software, Ecommasters, bpv Grigorescu Stefanica and Arilog.   Set up in 2019 by Daniel Nicolae, Andrei Paul, Dan Ungureanu and Robert Tanase, Innoship is a technology startup speeding up deliveries for online shops. Gapminder capital venture fund and Catalin Grigorescu are also investors at Innoship. The company is the biggest aggregator for delivery options in Romania and intends to become a European leader. Now Innoship integrates 65 couriers in 15 countries. The team has 18 members and continues to expand.
