Tourism: Fewer foreign tourists in Danube Delta

October 24, 2023

Fewer foreign tourists visited the Danube Delta this year, and those who did preferred independent means, the situation being influenced mainly by the Ukraine war.   Marius Potolea, the vicepresident of “Discover Jurilovca” Association declared that the unit he is head of had recorded a 20% increase of the number of guests compared to last year, but at general level the situation was not a good one. He remarked the fact that this year more accommodation unit had opened and the tourist flow was made mainly by Romanians.   “Before the pandemic, we had a lot of foreign tourists who used to come by bikes, cars or trailers, but now there are a lot fewer and those who come by trailers are independent”, said the vicepresident of the association “Discover Jurilovca”. According to him, the summer season for travel agents began at the end of July, August being a very good month for everybody, with high demand for weekends. “This year we organized, during the summer, folk evenings with vocal groups from Jurilovca. We offered traditional meals, trips by boats and bikes and guests came for these experiences which they find in only a few places in the Delta. This year we had an increase of 15-20% compared to last year,” Potolea said.   Autumn is one of the best seasons to visit the Delta, because of the high number of birds and colors which adorn the landscape, in his opinion.
